Heritage Open Days 7-10 September 2017

Free Day Out by the riverside

As you know, here at A Frugal Month we’re always looking for ways to eke out the monthly budget and a free day out is a great way to do that!

This weekend, Thursday 7 to Sunday 10 September, is the nationwide Heritage Open Days weekend. Direct from their website, “Heritage Open Days is England’s largest festival of history and culture, bringing together over 2,500 organisations, 5,000 events, and 40,000 volunteers. Every year for four days in September, places across the country throw open their doors to celebrate their heritage, community, and history. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.”

What a great idea! And even more brilliantly, this year the theme is “Unsung Stories”, a strand running through the festival celebrating the LGBTQ community and the stories that you may not know. I believe that it is very important for our children to be exposed to and aware of diverse communities in order for them to develop tolerance and an open mind – so important in today’s world.

You can search for your nearest event on the Heritage Open Days website. We’re torn between Quarry Bank Mill in Styal and the amazing opportunity to visit Strawberry Recording Studios, where Joy Division and 10cc recorded. What will you choose?
