Here at A Frugal Month, we love finding ways to spend time together as a family on a budget – see my posts about using Tesco vouchers to pay for English Heritage membership and our purse-friendly holidays to Butlins for examples! There’s nothing better than arriving for a day out or a weekend away knowing that there will be no surprises when it comes to how much you will need to spend; we will take packed lunches on days out and go self-catering on holidays where possible.
Last year we heard about Geronimo Festival, which takes place in May in the North West of England. Featuring stars from CBeebies, a Bear Grylls assault course, fairground rides and loads more, everything was included in the price and for that reason it seemed like a great opportunity to have a special family day out without breaking the bank, and we were right – we had the best day ever!
We were so happy to find out that Geronimo was returning in 2017, and what’s more, it now includes camping – and glamping! – opportunities – amazing for a frugal family such as ourselves! The food stalls at Geronimo looked incredible last year, but due to our budget restrictions we took a packed lunch. Being able to stay for the weekend will massively improve our frugal dining experiences as we won’t need to worry about getting back in time for tea or carrying a limp sandwich around for our pre-drive home meal. Also – hello Prosecco van that we now don’t need to avoid!
Taking place from 27th – 29th May 2017, Geronimo has been billed as ‘Glastonbury for Kids!’ by the Daily Mirror, and takes place in the beautiful grounds of Arley Hall in Northwich. The theme of this year’s event is Princesses, Knights and Dragons – Master FM can’t wait to put on his knight outfit and get stuck in! We’re also thrilled to see the Bear Grylls Assault Course returning along with stars from CBeebies (Andy Day, Katy Ashworth and Alex Winters are already confirmed for this year with more to be announced very soon), CBBC and ITV entertaining on the stages. There is a new Digital Zone which features YouTubers and Gamers for older children to meet as well as two Circuses, a Theatre Tent and a Show Ground with jousting, motorcycle and fencing displays. We’re also super excited that the Rockin’ Rhinos are on the bill – cool music for the under 7s!
If you want to fully enjoy the festival on a budget, buy your Early Bird tickets before the end of this month as they will include free wristbands for the Victorian Fun Fair. Tier 1 family tickets are available from just £16.50 per person! You can also bring your own tent, caravan or motor home to really make some savings (Geronimo will also provide tents if you have a little more room in your budget – the Bedouin Tent is a thing of beauty!).
Needless to say, we are super excited for Geronimo 2017 and have already got our tickets – including those budget friendly free wristbands!
